The word renaissance refers to rebirth or revival and most often refers to art, literature, and architecture. It seems appropriate, then, that Marriott Hotels' trendy and upscale properties have the word renaissance in their names.
I was a guest recently at Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa and had the opportunity to explore the facility. Located in a quiet residential golf community just minutes away from Birmingham's best shopping centers and restaurants, it is full of European charm and Southern hospitality.
An Inside Look at Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa
The Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa was named one of the Top 500 Hotels in the World by Travel + Leisure magazine in 2012 and 2008. Other accolades include:
- Winner of the "Best of the South" by Meetings South magazine in 2010.
- Best Hotel Spas in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler in 2014.
- Best Hotel Room Views in Alabama by al.com/Alabama Media Group in 2013.
- Birmingham's Best Spa and Babymoon by Birmingham magazine in 2014.
- Golf Digest's Top Golf Resorts in 2012.
- Golf Magazine's Top Golf Courses Silver Award in 2012.
The walls of the corridors on the main floor are covered in rich wood paneling.
There are three places to grab a bite to eat at the resort: JT's Lounge, a cozy bar environment with plenty of screens to watch the big game, both inside and out; Brock's, the resort's signature restaurant which offers fresh, locally grown fare, as well as small plates; and the Clubhouse Restaurant which serves salad, burgers, and other classic American fare.
Naturally, the main draw of the resort is the championship golf. The premier Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail course was beautifully designed along the 330 acres of rolling green hills that are meticulously landscaped. Along the course are a 1,000-yard cascading waterfall and two scenic lakes.
The course plays from 4,800 yards to 8,191 yards and was designed specifically for PGA tournament play. It's perfect for the casual golfer to tournament players alike.
There are two workout areas on the lower level of the resort - one with cardiovascular equipment and one with free weights. The resort also has two saltwater swimming pools, one outside with a small waterslide and one inside.
The full-service spa occupies 12,000 square feet on the lower level of the resort and offers everything from body wraps to waxing. The spa also carries high-end personal products such as Skin Authority and Babor available for purchase.
There are 259 guest rooms at the resorts and 11 suites at the AAA 4 Diamond rated property. The rooms come equipped with standard amenities such as an in-room safe and a coffee maker. Wifi is available for an additional fee.
The bathrooms are equipped with a separate bath and shower stall, granite counters, and are stocked with Aveda bath products.
What's really great about the rooms is the view of the golf course. Some rooms also have a view of the outdoor pool and patio area.
One unique feature about this resort is that a bagpiper plays every evening at sunset. Activities are also offered such as story readings and cookie decorating for kids. For adults, Cocktails and Crooners (sounds of local artists) takes place nightly from 8 until 11 pm. Other activities for adults include Wine Wednesday and Castle Beverage Cocktail Tasting.
Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa is located at 4000 Grand Ave Birmingham Alabama 35226.
